Search for Capsula on the internet and you will find stories by music critics who all make the same observation: Capsula puts on a hell of a live show (as anyone who has been to SXSW these past three years can attest to).

The band, featuring vocalist/guitarist Martin Guevara, vocalist/bassist Coni Duchess and drummer Ignacio Villarejo, is a Garage/Psychedelic Rock group based in Bilbao, Spain who came together in 1998 in their hometown of Buenos Aires, Argentina with the intent of following in the footsteps of their favorite musicians of the 60’s and 70’s: David Bowie, The Velvet Underground, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Pescado Rabioso and Manal.

Capsula released its first album in 1999 (Sublime) and the group slowly rose to fame in their home and adopted country over the years. The trio made its mark in the U.S. in 2009 when David Fricke gushed over the band’s live set at SXSW in the pages of Rolling Stone magazine. They returned to SXSW in 2010 and 2011 and even received the NPR seal of approval. Video footage of that set is below:
The band also worked alongside famed musician/producer Ivan Julian (Richard Hell and The Voivods) as the backup band for his solo album debut, Ivan Julian & Capsula: The Naked Flame.
The trio paid tribute to their hero David Bowie earlier this year at Bilbao’s Teatro Campos where they performed The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust in its entirety.
Capsula’s latest album is In The Land of Silver Souls. Recommended listening? Damn right especially if you can hear it live.
