Copa Centroamericana Final Match Day Recap

The 2017 Copa Centroamericana kicked off this past Friday, January 13th. The biannual tournament pits Central American national teams against each other in a short tournament to name a regional champion as well as to select four national teams to the proceeding CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament.
Guatemala was not involved in this year’s tournament as the country’s football federation remains banned due to “political interference.” As such, this year’s tournament will follow a round-robin format from Jan. 13th – Jan. 22nd. The team with the most points at the end of the five match days will raise the tournament trophy.

Belize 0 – 1 Honduras
El Salvador 1 – 0 Nicaragua
Panama 1 – 0 Costa Rica
Honduras’ victory over Belize sealed their fourth Copa Centroamericana title since the tournament began in 1991.

Costa Rica 0 – 0 El Salvador
Panama 0 – 0 Belize
Honduras is the current leader with 3 points as the only team that won on opening day.

Arsenal Net Three Past Chivas in International Friendly [photos]
Arsenal of England toured the US this summer for a number of pre-season matches before the start of the 2016/2017 Barclay’s Premiere League. The Gunners defeated their opponents, Chivas de Guadalajara, 3 – 1 at the Stubhub Center, home of MLS side LA Galaxy.

Chivas Defeat Veracruz 2 – 0 at Supercopa MX [photos]
Chivas de Guadalajara lifted the SupercopaMX trophy after 90 minutes against Veracruz in the preseason battle for a spot in the Copa Libertadores. The match, which pitted the CopaMX winners of the Apertura ’15 and Clausura ’16, gives the winner, Chivas, its first opportunity in six years to play in the prestigious South American tournament.
The game also turned out to be Omar Bravo’s final game with the Rebaño Sagrado as he announced his departure to the Carolina Railhawks of the NASL the following day. The former captain and all-time leading goalscorer with Chivas went out in style.

Chile masterfully picked Mexico apart 7 – 0 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara in the Copa America Centenario quarterfinal match.

Mexico defeated Jamaica 2 – 0 thanks a first half goal from Javier Hernandez and a second half goal by Oribe Peralta.
